In the Spring of 2004, Saint Mark invited William Scroggins, a licensed family and marriage counselor and leader of Tuscaloosa Prayer Network, to lead with his wife, Beverly, a marriage class at St. Mark. Thereafter, in Fall 2004, the Scroggins and others facilitated St. Mark’s first Dynamic Marriage class. Between Fall 2004 and Spring 2012, 89 couples have graduated from that class at St. Mark. In January of 2009, St. Mark established its Marriage Ministry Committee as one of its official congregational ministries.

Enriching , Empowering and Encouraging the Lord’s Sacred Creation of Marriage

Healthy Marriage Month

Each February we promote the importance of a healthy marriage in a variety of ways, including “With this Ring” sermons by Pastor John Verciglio and home showings of Courageous in 2012, and a Vow Renewal ceremony in 2013 (and ballroom dance lessons to prepare us for our renewal reception!). We also prepare and distribute marriage enrichment gifts to couples in the church and promote other events discussed below.

Dynamic Marriage Classes

Each year in the spring we offer an eight-week interactive class for couples on Sundays. See http://www.familydynamics.net/dynamicmarriage.php

Other Marriage Class

We regularly sponsor other classes for couples, using various curriculum such as Fireproof, Communication class using Family Life Homebuilders series books, the Five Love Languages, The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted, Myers Briggs Personality Tests, and a Love & Respect class. The Money Map course is also offered periodically.

Marriage Counseling

St. Mark pastors provide marriage and family counseling and when ap- propriate refer couples to local Christian counselors and United Counseling, a ministry of the United Methodist Church, http://www.unitedcounseling.org
